Can you link records found on searches to your family tree or does it all have to be added manually?

If can't do would recommend the feature as it is what makes ancestry so easy to use.

also please can you tell me what a GEDCOM is
Thanks

You must add it manually.

Please read the following to learn about the GEDCOM file format: https://en.geneanet.org/help/export-a-gedcom-file-from-your-genealogy-software-or-from-a-genealogy-website

Linking family trees together would really be a useful tool and save a lot of time. However from a system point of view there are issues with linking, e.g. who would be allowed to correct information and should corrections be reviewed somehow.

But still it would make sense to be able to either link together or copy a tree from someone else.

We have planned to add a system to link family trees.

Hi, sounds good that you have it in the plans!

Working in the IT business area myself, it seems odd to have to manually enter same or similar data into your own tree, if you have found a branch at someone else's tree and that person would be willing to share the data. Or then some kind of a copy-link for a person or a tree branch, with the ability to get a notification if info changes in the original branch.

Currently the Geneanet database must have millions of duplicate records for the same person with different and sometime totally inaccurate information about the same person, i think Geneanet has a contactlist connection established between editors, but independant ly of connection you shoudl be able to link to someone else's family memeber if you share that person on your tree.

Familysearch and Wikitree operate a collaborative setup. In Wikitree they work with a trusted list (people trusted to edit information) and privacy levels from a certain moment onward records are "open"

Yes, there are duplicates, some with inaccurate information, as on other genealogy websites. WikiTree is a particular case.

The question is how can I link to the information of another contributor
I found more accurate info with another user but apart form re-typing it, iḿ under the impression that I cannot link to his ancestor and show the info in my tree .

You must manually copy the information to your family tree.

Would it not be more accurate that a single record exists for a single person. Duplicates would be avoided or corrected , inaccurate information would dissolve , and this would reduce the amount of storage space for geneanet.

Yes, it would be more accurate but as on other genealogy websites, each member has its own family tree.

Even with linked and single records for common ancestors each user can have his "individual" tree with personal biographic
comments
A tree can be individual for a particular user, is nothing more then a view on a DB selection, a report from a users perspective. The identifying data name, BMD-data , name changes, burial data should/could be a single record, even pictures could be shared from a single common record. Biographic memories could be attached to the link. and yes another user has another view of the data
