How to navigate the numerous Irish birth records..?

I am trying to trace a John Carroll, born 1825 in Limerick, and found an impressive number of places where to look for his birth records (or marriage).

Too many, it seems, I am overwhelmed..!

Said John emigrated to Connecticut, and had his first child in 1848, there.

Any advice on how to approach such a search?
