Famille Motier

I am looking for a death record for Thomas Motier who came from Puy-de-Dome Auvergne. He was from a very well documented family in Champetiere but I can't find proof of his death which would have occurred some time in the latter half of the 1500's. I'm hoping that this is not too early for records to be available. I am further hindered by the inability to speak French! I would be grateful for any help.

Hi,
I'm living in Puy-de-Dôme.

It's pretty difficult to find exact proofs before 1600, not a lot of sources still exist or are in a correct state.
It seems that this family is pretty well documented as "de la Fayette" family. Motier was their other name.
They were ruling quite a lot of lands, so the research will be difficult as we don't know where he died.

On these family trees, you have a very detailed view of the family

It seems there are books with few references on his parents, they may have been married on the 7th of January 1508 , and had 7 boys and 4 girls.
I might go in 2 weeks from now look for some archives, I will try to find the books.

Thank you so much for getting back to me Laurene and what a beautiful part of the world you live in. I have contacted Peter Bachelier who advised me to get in touch with Jack Morter. I did this but have not yet heard back from him. I have emailed Archives at Puy-de-Dome and they gave me the contact email for a lady named Annie Gioux who unfortunately has also not replied. I have been searching for about a year now and as you say there is so much information on the Motier and La Fayette family. In a few family trees it states that Thomas Motier was a Huguenot who fled France and ended up in Norfolk where my Morter line of the family come from. I have found in the Huguenot Society records a Thomas Morter who died a "Stranger" in Colchester UK in 1597 but that is the only reference I could find of him. According to Ancestry that Thomas was the son of Thomas Motier de Champetiere but I would love to find proof to connect him to my line. I thought that if I could find death records of all Thomas Motier's siblings but none for him in French records then that would help but as I say my French is limited to the bits I remember from school - a long time ago. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you so much.
