Rhine River area

I am confused. I am searching for the surnames PRINTZ/SPRENTZ in the Lorraine, Saar, and Rheinland Pfalz areas especially around the late 18th century. My problems tend to center around the Rhine river and the towns or villages there. Some researchers find that a town is located in Saar (Saare), while other researchers locate the same town in Rheinland Pfalz.

I also am suspicious that the surname, SPRENTZ, is somehow related to PRINTZ, but i find the PRINTZ name almost entirely in Lorraine, and the SPRENTZ name crosses over both sides of the Rhine. My grandparents told me that the name PRINTZ was also known as SPRENTZ.

Please, can anyone assist me?
